Friends of Cape Lookout National Seashore

Projects

Currenty, two projects are underway or in the planning stage. Membership development is our first project... the goal is to have 1000 members by the end of 2008 and 3000 members by the end of 2010. A large, broad-based membership is critical to establishing our credentials as a support group and to provide the resources to meet our goals.

A fund-raising effort will begin in 2008 to raise sufficient funds by 2010 to meet our most important goal which is getting the lighthouse open for public climbing on a regular basis. About $100,000 will be needed to fund a detailed Historic Structures Report and another $400,000 to implement the repairs and safety improvements in order to open the lighthouse.
